AI is an integral part of the developing modern world. It is reaching more industries and fields and may alter basic day to day activities drastically in upcoming years.
Artificial intelligence is an advanced form of technology capable of "human" intelligence, including decision-making, speech-recognition, visual perception, and more. Machines and computers with such technology often become more intelligent over time, learning from previous encounters and experiences, and applying for future use, just like humans. Though some fear this wild development, it can be extremely beneficial and progressive in various consumer markets.
Some interesting examples of AI:
· Amazon's Echo, Google Home and other virtual assistants have the ability to read recipes aloud, create shopping lists, timers, convert measurements, place orders, play music, read the news and much more.
Consumers can receive new recipe recommendations with VA already calculating how much it will cost and where to buy the necessary items. Further along, preferences will be kept so fitting suggestions can be made to consumers, taking allergies, budgets, and other dietary needs into account. Overall, VA can help with meal and budget planning, reshaping the way we purchase and consume food.
· Im2calories- this is an application that can identify the number of calories in a food item just from a picture of the food.
· Smart stores- supermarkets or other stores that require no manpower or checkout lines, but instead use special cameras and sensors for automatic charges. This will revolutionize retailing. Nowpet is a pet food store built on this model, the first store of its kind in Israel which opened in the summer of 2019. It is likely that dominant retailers such as Shufersal will also be opening stores of this kind in the near future.
· Additional influences in the food industry- machines that can optimize the supply chain using less waste due to more accurate yield predictions; managing stock- optimal amounts based on history; consumer preferences- what are consumers seeking, what do they pick up off the shelf but not buy.
Some of the above examples exist in the global and even local market, while others are still in development. Local start-ups such as Syte.ai, Infime, CommonSense Robotics and Aldoc, are all examples of Israeli start-ups using Artificial Intelligence in various fields, and there are many more.
There is no doubt that this industry is our future and will advance and grow dominantly over the next decade.
